Hey guys. This is a litttttle different from the usual natural route to perfect skin. Well, the natural way to radiant skin too but with a twist. It’s a bit different. Guess what? We’re talking Skin brightening and skin lightening. Yup.
These are two different things. Skin brightening and lightening are two different things. You can lightening your skin and look pale. You can also have the most amazing dark and bright skin.
Skin brightening has to do with radiance and glow while skin lightening deals mostly with pigments and making the appearance of the skin lighter than its normal tone.
Now let’s get down to it so you can know what you really want. Shall we?
Radiance. Glowing skin. All these can be done the natural way. The major key is exfoliation. Well, dead skin makes the skin dull in appearance and this is associated with dry skin too.
For that glowing, radiant and vibrant looking skin, you’d need to incorporate:
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin A or it’s derivative e.g Retinol
- Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHA) such as Salicylic acid.
This is what everyone actually wants: A nice glowing skin is always in.
This has to do with melanin inhibition and getting a fairer skin, popular in darker skin tones.
There are two ways to go about it:
The natural way simply involves the use of skin actives or lighteners obtained from plants or seeds, it’s extracts, barks and oils. These include and not limited to:
- Alpha Auburtin
- Beta Auburtin
- Licorice Root Extract
- Kojic Acid
- Citrus Acid
- Lactic Acid
The other way is the use of non natural products which contain Hydroquinone which ends up leaving the skin in a worse state that at initial course.
What you must know:
Beautiful skin is as a result of a good skincare routine, healthy diet and genetics for some.
To get a healthy looking skin and radiance, you must always exfoliate and use a sunscreen. Sunscreen is the most important step of your skincare regimen. The damage the UV rays do to the skin can not be undone by a skincare routine, very successfully. So while you protect your skin from the sun, do a proper skincare regimen to get you through the days, possibly 2x daily.

With a dry skin, you can amp up the skin’s radiance using butters. There are a variety of soft, brightening butters to use that sinks easily unto the skin, leaving it looking rich and velvety. To start off, your best bet will be exfoliation and using rich organic soft butters. I have a ton of menu of body butters ranging from N5000-N1000 if you’re interested and you must ensure consistent usage with a sunscreen to see astonishing results.
In skin lightening, to achieve the lush fair skin you’ve always wanted, I would encourage using the natural route. This will be using about 8-10 of the ingredients listed above to whip up a lovely emulsion following other oils.
In skin lightening, a sunscreen is a MUST too. This means that you must use this 24/7, 365 days.
To achieve the complexion you desire, you must also exfoliate a good 4-6 weeks/ a month. You can use exfoliating sponges and scrubs and gels and lotions, you are spoilt for choice. A good recommendation is Lactic Acid at night time, 3-4 times a week.
When exfoliation is done, then lighten away, my love. I do not recommend hydroquinone especially because it does the skin no good. It causes skin cancer. You get immune to it after 6 months and you don’t get light skinned anymore. Worst still, the skin goes back to normal. Although it is gold standard for lightening the skin, there is a regulation to the formulation and most people ignore that.
Lightening with organic ingredients are safer but slow. Results are visible between 2-5 months, depending on how much you exfoliate and the ingredients used in the products.
Always remember to skin build always using butters to make the skin look healthy and glowing. It keeps the skin supple and vicarious veins at bay. Say no to pale skin and yes to creamy, glowing complexions, if that’s what you prefer.
