Just days ago, I wrote about the Drunk Elephant “Littles Kit” and I was so happy when I received the products that I purchased, as usual. Then I thought what great idea it’d if there’s a mini honest review about these products all at once, instead of breaking them down into a number of posts. Yes? I’ll try to keep it simple and straightforward without any science to it.
So the first product to review would be the Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser and it’d go on until the Lala Whipped Cream.
Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser
Let me just say I really wanted to love this cleanser because it’s so mild.
The website says it is “an innovative jelly cleanser that removes all traces of makeup, excess oil, pollution and any other grime from the day. Free of SLS, fragrance and essential oils, Beste™ No. 9 is totally non-irritating, non-sensitizing and appropriate for every skin type”- Drunk Elephant
This cleanser is fragrance free luscious gel. I find it mild and with little lather (great for my combination skin). It is colourless, like water. It feels light on the skin and makes a good cleanser.
- Removes traces of makeup, dirt and actually cleans the skin (Not on caked up full face beat)
- Light weight and fragrance free
- Mild on the skin
- Marula oil as an ingredient which is great for blemishes.
- No actives
- Difficult to spread on skin except water is added
- Could be drying
- The top cap leaks
In summary, this is a mind cleanser that works great at cleaning the skin and dissolving makeup. It can be used on alternate days with a cleanser that has actives or exfoliating ones. Otherwise, if you have skin concerns, this might not be the best choice.
B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum
I’d love to think this has Marula oil or hyaluronic acid. What does the website say? It says “B-Hydra™ is a cool glass of water for your thirsty skin. This ultra-hydrating vitamin B5 gel replenishes nutrients, visibly brightens and improves the appearance of skin texture and tone, while delivering intense skin hydration throughout the day.
Uniquely formulated with provitamin B and pineapple ceramide, B-Hydra™ attracts and holds moisture to the skin, helping improve barrier function for skin that looks healthy and illuminated. A watermelon rind/apple/lentil complex provides 24 hour continuous skin hydration and significantly reduces the appearance of fine lines, while increasing moisture retention. Barberry extract adds soothing properties. Sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer soaks in easily to provide unsurpassed hydration and acts as a free radical scavenger and powerful antioxidant. Drabness, dryness, uneven texture and fine lines will appear diminished and the skin will look brighter and more youthful upon every application.”- Drunk Elephant
- Great pump action
- Light weight formula
- Fragrance free
- It didn’t clog my pores
- Little hydration
See yeah, the strength of this product is hydration but that’s what it didn’t do. If you’ve used hadalabo before, you wouldn’t want to use this. However, if you like the idea of ceramides and provitamins B5 on your skin, look no further. Again, if hadalabo broke you’re out, your skin might like this. Alternate nights maybe?
C- Firma Day Serum – Vitamin C Serum.
Let’s check what the website says.. “A super-potent vitamin C day serum packed with a powerful antioxidant complex, essential nutrients, and fruit enzymes, all working together to firm and brighten the appearance of skin, while improving the signs of photoaging.
This revolutionary serum, jam packed with a potent antioxidant complex of 15% l-ascorbic acid, 0.5% ferulic acid and 1% vitamin E, plus other formula-supportive enzymes and antioxidants helps neutralize pollution, environmental stressors and damaging free radicals while replenishing lipids and visibly reducing the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles. Uniquely formulated with pumpkin ferment and pomegranate extracts, C-Firma™ enzymatically dissolves dead surface skin cells for smoother texture. Sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer quickly penetrates skin and provides intense hydration. The result is a noticeably diminished appearance of photo damage, replaced by incredible radiance and luminosity.
C-Firma™ has a reservoir effect, which means it will stay active on skin for up to 72 hours and cannot be washed or rubbed off. C-Firma™ has a pH level of 3.3 – 3.5, which Drunk Elephant believes is the key to a non-irritating, effective formulation that delivers real results”. –Drunk Elephant
Does it live up to its hype? First off, If you’re the type to pass judgement on a product based on the list of ingredients, you’d be sold on this one. I mean, 15% L-Ascorbic acid, throw in Vitamin E, Ferulic Acid, Pumpkin Ferment Extract and it is oil based. Mighty hydration. No?
- Oil based, great especially for dry skin
- Ingredient list seems impressive
- Pump bottle dispenses without issues
- Two pumps or three, you’re on your merry way
- Packaging helps minimise chances of oxidation
- NA except the colour.
Conclusion: this product packs a punch when it comes to the ingredients and a mindful packaging, I wish other brands could use this as a standard because while the use of ferulic acid to stabilise L-Ascorbic acid (let’s simply say Vitamin C) is gold standard and amber coloured dropper glass bottles are great, it still exposes the products to light and air; gang busters for enabling oxidisation of Vitamin C when opened frequently.
It has got a yellow-light orange colour and apparantly, it’s the ingredients that give it that colour or something along those lines. I’m not bothered about it though, I think it’s a good one although I haven’t seen any significant difference in my skin tone and texture yet. It says it brightens and firms the skin. I’m looking forward to that. (More on Vitamin C using the links above or below)
I will be making a second part post for the rest of the four products and I hope this provides some information. Happy reading. X
