Urban Skin RX Review (Melanin Experts)

Urban Skin RX Review (Melanin Experts)

The Urban Skin Rx review is one long but brief one and guys, the month of July was lit with Urban Skin Rx for me. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been hyped about this product so a review is in order.

I got to know about this product via instagram and I’m not huge on Insta famous products but with a recommendation (via her instastory) by Fe and with the ever helpful and witty friend, that Gemini girl (an instrumental and phenomenal skincare blogger), I got the plug and the product in due time.

What Exactly Is Urban Skin Rx?

Products came in a nice toilet bag. Thoughtful, no?

High-performance Urban Skin Rx products stand apart from typical over-the-counter skin care products in that we include higher concentrations of active ingredients as well as our products include ingredients to correct and prevent uneven skin tone, the most common concern of women of color.

The Urban Skin Rx review

In a cute toilet bag, my products came with the Morning and Night routine, well instructed and I was mighty impressed by that.

The extra bonus was the minimal routine (with only three products: Morning and Night), guys… I mean, when you have all the actives your skin needs, there’s no need to go extra with 1 million steps. Here is the Urban Skin Rx review-

The products were:

  • A 3-in-1 even tone treatment (cleansing bar)
  • Brightening Vitamin C Serum
  • Dermashield Moisturisng Sunscreen
  • Night Treatment with Retinol and Hydroquinone
  • Hydrating Lotion

The Routine:

Thankful for minimal routines. Look at it all booed up with grease and what not.

Following the instructions above: Morning routine was:

Just take out the hyaluronic acid. That came in mid way when I needed to amp up my skin hydration level

  • The 3-in-1 even skin tone Cleansing Bar I used as a Mask, Cleanser and Exfoliant (with a sponge it came with). Star ingredients are Kojic Acid, Niacinamide, Azelaic Acid, Glycerin, Alpha Arbutin, Witch Hazel and Black Tea Leaf Extract. Mild on the skin and strong enough to fade dark spot and scars. A clearer skin tone was noticed although not significantly (as I’d need to use it more for that wow factor). It smells great  just like liquorice. It came dark in colour.
  • Super C Brightening Vitamin C Serum was next. Good antioxidant with a Beta Hydroxy Acid to unclog the skin and mildly exfoliate. Star ingredients are L-Ascorbic Acid, Ferulic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Green Tea Extract, Alpha Arbutin, Gotu Kola Extract, Kojic Acid and  Salicylic Acid. It is no joke. It smells citrusy and came almost clear and deep.
  • DermaShield Sun protection (broad spectrum) Mattifying Moisturiser with SPF 30- What is skincare without sunscreen? It left no white cast and was a smooth glide on the skin. Star ingredients are Titanium Dioxide, Acetyl Hexapeptide 8, Aloe Leaf Extract and Green Tea Extract. It smells like um.. nothing and came in a white colour.

The time came for the skin to repair itself and rejuvenate. The Melanin experts took consideration into preparing a good routine loaded with the right actives. The night routine of course started with:

Night time- Show time

  • The 3-in-1 even skin tone Cleansing Bar (as per above)
  • Followed with the even tone night treatment with the anti aging superstar; Retinol and 2% hydroquinone. Star ingredients are Retinol, 2% hydroquinone, Jojoba Oil, Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid, Kojic Acid, Alpha Arbutin and ton of potent extracts like Mallow, Yallow and Gotu-Kola. It smells like nothing… Maybe I couldn’t get a decent whiff. It has a white colour and no stinging.
  • Sealed in all that with the last product, the Hydrabalance Instant Moisture Infusion. Just what my skin needs. Hydration and Moisture. Star ingredients are Water, Squalane, Sodium Hyaluronate and the co- emulsifier/ humectant- Polysorbate 20. It smells like a combination of sunscreen and moisturiser. Looks white but applies on opaque and absorbs easily with hydration on deck.

My thoughts: One word..Impressed.

Before & After. Forehead and right under eye-close to nose bridge blemishes. Almost faded.

Why the Urban Skin Rx review? From the minimal routine, giving room for tweaks, to the application, texture and smell, this is a win for me. The sponge thingy was important but I didn’t use it for two (2) weeks. I feared it’d be too strong and the method of preservation and keeping was demanding: ofcourse, air drying, hot washes and safe keeping because..germs and bacteria. I did start off with little amounts so it’d last a month but it did last over 30 days. First off was the Vitamin C and Night Treatment. The last to get done was the cleansing bar.

Overall, a superb product and would be worth a repurchase. As with everything skincare, I am particular about treatments, it’s ingredients and deliverables. Potent extracts were used mostly too. For sure, this product didn’t fail. If I get my hands on Urban Skin Rx again (because I always try different products), it’d be the Cleansing Bar (I’m hoping to make it a regular and staple) and Night Treatment (even with the hydroquinone, I know not to abuse it and pace myself within 3-4 months).

Super C brightening Vitamin C Serum has great ingredients and might oxidise (from the orange fresh smell to the spoilt orange stench) on your watch like most Vitamin C Serums so use and observe carefully.

As with skincare, a decent 4-6 weeks and beyond would be ideal in determining the efficacy of a product so if there are major skin concerns, I’d recommend consistent and long term use to see how that works.

It is definitely worth the try, the Urban Skin Rx review and you will be happy you did.
