Good Skin Care: Day And Night Skincare

Good Skin Care: Day And Night Skincare

What Is Good Skin Care?

I believe that any good skin care routine should have a day and time skincare solid regimen. Everyday, the life of a female has its own rhythm and I had learnt that skincare products differ from day and night. That could be a myth however, I chose to be on the safe side than sorry I didn’t do right.

It is said that during the day, the skin is in protective mode by default. Apparently, it is exposed to all kinds of things including environmental pollution and the sun in Lagos doesn’t help at all. I’m ok with the Vitamin D it gives and all but I’d love to also use a good sunscreen.

Again, the skin is in its repair mode at night time. This includes cell turnover. I chose to get the skin all the nourishment and hydration it needs to accelerate its repair and to wake up to a better looking skin. You know: regenerate, rejuvenate, restore and replenish.

As a side note, my skin is definitely not the way I want it to be but it is way better than it was a long time ago and I couldn’t imagine how it’d be if I didn’t give a toss about skincare.

With that in mind, creating a skincare routine to cater to my skin need and skin type for every season and every concern has not exactly been a walk in the park especially when treating multiple things. My skincare routine must always involve a treatment, out of habit and maybe a necessity now.

The Morning Routine:

Again, no cleanser included. It used to be sunscreen I always forgot to include in a picture, or lotion.

The morning routine would easily consist of the following:

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Serum (Peptides or Antioxidants where Vitamin C Serum is my go-to, AHA/ BHA or Hyaluronic Acid or Niacinamide or Alpha Arbutin)
  • Moisturiser
  • Sunscreen

Depending on the skin need at the time, I can skip a toner, but a face mist is always at hand. Other days, I could use toners and mists. I just listen to my skin. Again, if the serum is an exfoliant, I’d use a hydrating toner.

The Night Routine:

An incomplete photo: Cleanser and Lotion not included.

The night routine is usually minimal and clad with hydrating products. I’d double cleanse (with an oil based cleanser) before water cleansing at this time too. It will go thus:

  • Cleanse
  • Tone
  • Treat (Retinol or Niacinamide)
  • Hydrate
  • Eye Cream (the skin around my eyes are thin and I love to use hyaluronic acid or Q10 or rich in moisture and hydration type of creams)
  • Moisturise.

It helps and encourages me to completely take my makeup off before bed and not just use a face wipe.

It is not a one size fit all type thing as there will also be some tweaks in between, with less products. I am always for minimal routines and working my fingers through my face is something I love to do less.

Overall, these steps have helped me achieve a brighter, clearer and radiant skin. The key to these lie in the ingredients of products, the order of application, method of application and consistency of use.

Does your skincare routine in the morning differ from night routine? What do you think makes up a good skin care routine?

PS- this post is about a skincare routine for day and night, not the actual product in the picture as a go by. These products, I use often but I switch again.
